Compassionate Care

Integrated Therapy & Psychiatric Care for Mind, Mood, and Life Balance

Irwin Mental Health Services provides comprehensive outpatient mental health care for adolescents and adults through an integrated model combining psychotherapy and psychiatric medication management when clinically appropriate. Care is delivered by licensed clinicians and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in accordance with Virginia scope of practice and regulatory standards.

We focus on addressing both emotional and biological factors, offering therapy, psychiatric evaluation, medication prescribing, and ongoing medication management in a collaborative, individualized care plan. Our goal is to help clients reduce symptoms, improve daily functioning, and achieve long-term wellness.

Services are available in person and via secure telehealth for Virginia residents. Treatment plans are evidence-based, regularly reviewed, and tailored to each client’s needs.

Depression & Anxiety

Depression and anxiety can impact mood, motivation, sleep, concentration, and relationships. At Irwin Mental Health Services, we use evidence-based therapy using CBT alongside carefully monitored medication management, when indicated, to help clients achieve symptom relief and improved daily functioning. Treatment decisions are made collaboratively, stay within your comfort zone and use ongoing evaluation to ensure effectiveness and safety.

Trauma & PTSD

Traumatic experiences can lead to persistent emotional distress, hyper-vigilance, avoidance, or feelings of hopelessness. Our trauma-informed approach integrates specialized therapeutic techniques with psychiatric medication support, when appropriate, to help regulate the nervous system, reduce symptoms, and promote healing. Care is paced, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s needs.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling offers partners a structured and supportive space to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and address conflict more effectively. Whether facing relationship strain, major life transitions, or emotional disconnection, therapy focuses on identifying patterns, improving emotional responsiveness, and fostering healthier interactions. When mental health symptoms affect the relationship, integrated psychiatric support may be incorporated as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Family Therapy

Family therapy addresses relational challenges by helping family members better understand one another and develop healthier communication and problem-solving skills. Through a collaborative approach, families work together to reduce conflict, improve emotional support, and navigate complex dynamics. When appropriate, individual psychiatric treatment may be coordinated alongside family-based care.

Treatment is personalized, supportive, and designed to address the underlying psychological and biological factors contributing to disordered eating.

Substance Use & Addiction Support

We provide compassionate care for individuals struggling with drug or alcohol addiction, integrating therapy and psychiatric support when appropriate. Treatment is individualized and may include counseling, medication-assisted support, and ongoing care coordination to help clients rebuild a healthy, balanced life.
